Pregnancy and recovery after birth can change how comfortable walking, lifting and daily activities feel. FitMe Physio offers online consultations to discuss movement and rehabilitation concerns. Your stage of pregnancy, delivery recovery and advice from your maternity team shape appropriate support.
What does a pregnancy or postpartum consultation cover?
Your consultation considers your pregnancy stage or time since birth, discomfort, daily activities and advice from your maternity team.
Review your care history
Discuss your stage of pregnancy or delivery, any complications and current activity restrictions.
Understand movement difficulties
Explain back or pelvic discomfort, lifting, walking and any pelvic-floor concerns.
Agree suitable support
Discuss appropriate exercise guidance and whether a maternity or in-person pelvic-health assessment is needed.
How is the exercise plan adapted?
The plan respects your stage of pregnancy, delivery recovery and medical advice. Exercises and activity progression are individualized rather than based only on weeks since birth.
- Movement and strengthening guidance appropriate to your assessment.
- Discussion of comfortable positions and adapting everyday activities.
- Review of pelvic-floor or abdominal concerns and referral needs when appropriate.
When should you contact your maternity team?
Video physiotherapy complements maternity and postnatal care. Heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, chest pain or difficulty breathing needs immediate medical help. A painful swollen calf, fever or new concerning symptoms after birth also needs urgent advice. Pelvic-health concerns may require an in-person examination.
Prepare for a comfortable video session
Choose a supported space and explain any positions or movements that are currently uncomfortable.
- Have relevant maternity, delivery or caesarean recovery instructions available.
- Note activities that cause discomfort or pelvic-floor symptoms.
- Allow time for breaks and tell us about any current medical restrictions.

Questions about pregnancy and postpartum physiotherapy
Can I start exercise during pregnancy?
Activity should reflect your previous routine, health and maternity advice. Discuss new exercise or any pregnancy complications with your midwife or doctor before planning a routine.
Is there a fixed date to return to exercise after birth?
Recovery depends on delivery, healing, symptoms and medical advice. Your physiotherapist discusses gradual activity within those limits rather than a universal deadline.
Can pelvic-floor concerns be assessed entirely online?
Symptoms and guidance can be discussed remotely, but some assessment needs an in-person pelvic-health appointment. Ongoing bladder or bowel concerns should also be raised with your healthcare team.
Does a caesarean change the rehabilitation plan?
Yes. Surgical recovery instructions and any complications affect movement and progression. Keep your discharge advice available and follow the treating team's restrictions.
